Sonja Hancox
Life During The War
Sonja describes her education.
And then you, after you left school, what happened to you?
SH: Oh I got lots of apprenticeships.
INT: Did you?
SH: Oh yes, I wanted to go to University but I didn’t. Thank goodness. I wouldn’t have, it wouldn’t have fitted in with the lifestyle.
INT: Is that right? Were you a bit like your mother then?
SH: Yes.
INT: I see. And tell me then when, when you were working here you must have picked up English quite quickly?
SH: Oh I went to school first but that didn’t last. The teachers were constantly changing, you know.
INT: During wartime I’m sure there was a lot of change.
SH: Yes.
